Ukrainian Yuzhmash rocket and missile factory (together with Yuzhnoye Design Bureau) is among the world's leading rocket and satellite manufacturers. The key player in the most sophisticated project of the space launch industry, SeaLaunch, and developer of the world's most reliable launch vehicle, CYCLONE-3, YUZHMASH's rich heritage also includes the most advanced Soviet ballistic missiles: the SS-24 Scalpel, SS-18 Satan, SS-17 Spanker, SS-9 Scarp, SS-4 Sandal (which the USSR planned to deploy to Cuba in 1961), and the DNEPR-1 launch vehicle. The list of satellites developed by Yuzhmash includes Warsaw Pact Intercosmos research satellites, electromagnetically-pure AUOS, ocean radar Earth observation, elint, and many others. Overall, Yuzhmash and Yuzhnoye have built and launched over 450 satellites and have 876 launches of rockets and missiles on record, and counting.
Yuzhmash is the only rocket factory in the world to export rocket stages to the USA. The 1st stage of the International Space Station resupply launch vehicle, Antares, is manufactured by Yuzhmash; the top 4th stage of the European Vega-C launch vehicle is also developed and manufactured by Yuzhmash.
Additionally, Yuzhmash has strong branch industries in the fields of metallurgy, assembling, testing, welding, casting, forging, and machining. They have mastered and implemented numerous unique technological solutions and are a full-cycle vertically integrated company.
The following images present the Yuzhhmash engine firing testbed, the Yuzhmash final assembly line with the 1st stage of the Antares rocket prepared for shipment to the USA, and the USA Antares rocket being raised for launch at the Wallops Island launch facility in the USA.
