Expected Development

The battle begins. Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos may hit a roadblock with their mega-constellations even before the market will speak. Not to mention the faith of alleged demand for LEO launches.

Still the engine problems...

The Federal Aviation Administration closed its investigation into last year’s failed flight of a cargo mission by Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin ... The 21 required actions include the “redesign of engine and nozzle components to improve structural performance during operation as well as organizational changes.”

FAA closes SpaceX Starship investigation, orders fixes
From the Spaceflight Insider: the Federal Aviation Administration said it has closed the mishap investigation into the April 20 Starship flight, citing 63 corrective actions for SpaceX to take before the company can continue flying its gargantuan rocket at Boca Chica, Texas. “Corrective actions include redesigns of vehicle hardware to prevent leaks and fires, redesign of the launch pad to increase its robustness, incorporation of additional reviews in the design process, additional analysis and testing of safety critical systems and components including the Autonomous Flight Safety System, and the application of additional change control practices,”

New Internet Age is Right Behind the Corner

Left, model of the atomic structure of the quantum light-emitting defect in silicon (grey), composed of two substitutional carbon atoms (black), and one silicon interstitial atom (pink). The size of the quantum emitter is about 1 nanometer (1 billionth of a meter). Right, spectra from quantum emitters showing more intense light emission following exposure of a silicon crystal to a high flux of protons from intense pulses (black) compared to the conventional method of low flux exposure to protons over extended periods of time (blue).
Advances in quantum emitters mark progress toward a quantum internet
From the article in the Space Daily: A team of researchers has recently demonstrated a more effective technique for creating quantum emitters using pulsed ion beams, deepening our understanding of how quantum emitters are formed.

Big Trouble For Little Guys

SpaceX's new Bandwagon program is a big threat to small launch providers
From the article in TechCrunch+: The new program, which was quietly announced at a space industry conference earlier this month, is the latest sign that SpaceX intends to take no prisoners in the small launch market.

Re: MTCR

The Biden administration on Aug. 24 sued the company Space-X, owned by Elon Musk, alleging that the firm discriminates against immigrants.

Souz-5 and Baikonur mess
Not really news - the events took place in March, 2023 - but a good and balanced description of the Baikonur/Baiterek/Souz-5 mess. The long and short of it is that there will be no Souz-5 or Russian Sea Launch.
Note also that Zenit-Australia has no Russian components.

Pegasus celebrates 30 years of successful airborne launches
>30 years ago today, the first ever air-launched commercial launch vehicle entered the market. The Pegasus "launch from anywhere" is still going strong.

Good analysis, but launch market implications are missing.

Event not to miss

Useful information for market projections

September 26, 2023. COSMOVISION GLOBAL has completed analysis of the noise pollution that results from Zenit rocket launches. It was found that noise beyond Spaceport limits (1-1,5 km from the launch pad) does not exceed the sound of a thunderstorm and lasts for less than 1 minute. As such, it poses no threat to the local wildlife of Northern Cape York. The lift off noise at launch of the engine nozzle is 160dB, falling to 150dB at a distance of 55m. A noise level of 150dB corresponds to noise of jet taking off from a distance of 25m. Our analysis shows noise from the Zenit falls to 120dB at 1600m from the launch pad, i.e. beyond launch site boundaries. This level corresponds to that produced by thunderclaps, which all species in the area experience on a regular basis. The Zenit launch vehicle reaches an altitude 1600m in 3,6 seconds of flight.

September 12, 2023. Replacements for 100% of the Russian components and materials that are used for production of the ZENIT-AUSTRALIA launch vehicle have been found in Ukraine, Australia, USA, and other countries that pose no risk of international sanctions. New components and materials meet or exceed operational requirements and mostly have better mass-dimension characteristics. The preliminary shortlist of the prospective suppliers has already been identified.

September 06, 2023. The test program for the gas generator of the Ukrainian indigenous open cycle propulsion of the Zenit-Australia launch vehicle was completed. The core of the gas generator was developed using new technology. It withstood a pressure quadruple of the expected pressure at operational conditions. The projected thrust of the engine in a vacuum is 110 metric tons and 100 metric tons at sea level.

September 01, 2023 COSMOVISION GLOBAL and parthers applied for an international patent with overseas IP agency for the Zenit-Australia launch vehicle.

August 18, 2023 Alpha-testing of the COSMOVISION GLOBAL facility maintenance and control software system LSMS was completed. See the Technology page for more details.

July 18, 2023 COSMOVISION GLOBAL founders had a productive meeting with ASA Regulation Christopher De Luis and Adam Clash. Thank you, Christopher and Adam, and looking forward to our next meeting!
